The Universal Cartridge Reader UCAR is an instrument to control BiFlow's microfluidic cartridges such as amp.flow and perform a readout of a fluorescence microarray. It is available as R&D product and as a customizable OEM solution.
The Universal Cartridge reader is capable of running suitable cartridges such as amp.flow or iso.flow and performing a fluorescence microarray readout (currently Cy5 channel).
Typical application scenarios are molecular assays in which a hybridization of DNA fragments to probes on the sensor is required. In this case, the entire assay is performed in the reader, resulting in an automated readout of the microarray, an subsequent analysis of the fluorescence intensities of the spots, and even a presentation of a "user friendly" result based on the spot pattern, if required.
An assay can be "programmed" in a user-friendly software running on a PC, simply by drag-and-drop of the different assay steps. It can, however, also be run on the instrument without an additional computer.

The reader is also available as OEM product and can be easily adapted to different use cases and applications by creating an application-specific user interface and/or to be compatible with customer-specific cartridges.
